Thanks to all for coming today. The homemade sausage rolls and cake went down a treat.
Thought For The Day
(Greg Francis) :
So often the mistake is made that a church or chapel building is the most important part in religion. However it's the people (the believers) who make up the church. Jesus Christ has promised that he will keep on building his church until the end of time.
Evening Service (judges 19). Because the Israelites forsook the LORD's law the nation descended into religious and moral chaos. The horrific events of this chapter show israel hitting rock bottom as the morals of Sodom are found in the nation. God destroyed Sodom & Gomorrah. Tragically Israel is forsaking the LORD and adopting other lifestyles.
Children's Talk: Harvest is a time to stop & think about all that God gives. All that we have comes from him and it's right that we share; share what we have with those who do not have.
Morning Service: (Psalm 43;3-4) God uses his light (the assurance that God had not forsaken us) and his truth to bring us from dejection to Jesus Christ, who is the place of assurance. In him we have assurance that we are God's people, he is with us and our sins are forgive. Realising this makes our hearts break out in praise.
Evening Service: (Judges 18). When we corrupt religion and make it something that we do for self-gain or take the easy option when God has declared his ways to us, then we do not bring glory and honour to God. Religion becomes self-gratification and not for the glory of God. Personal faith is essentrial we cannot be give the faith of our parents & grand-parents.
Tea, Coffee, Chat & Thought For The Day
When we face rejection from human beings then always remember that Jesus Christ was despised and rejected. He faced this as he lived in our world on the way to dying on the cross for us.
Jesus, who was thirsty, sat by a well. He asks a lady who had a pitcher for some water to drink. Jesus uses the ensuing discussion to point out that he was the one who can deal with the thirst that the woman (and we) have deep in our souls.
Morning Service (Psalm 43)
The believer, who is dejected and in turmoil has remembered past blessings and that God is in total control, now cries out to God for deliverance. He asks God to send out his light (assurance) and truth, and to be led to the sanctuary: the place where there is assurance of God's presence & the forgiveness of sins.
Judges 17:6-13 Lucky Charm Religion
Human beings will sometimes refer to, use & believe in lucky charms hoping that they bring prosperity and stop bad things happening. In Judges 17 the worship of the true God is changed into a lucky charm religion, which is has a little bit of God in it but is there in the hope that Micah prospers. His confidence is misplaced. Out only hope is God himself & not religion that we modify to suit ourselves
