After deciding to disobey the LORD's command to preach in Ninevah Jonah tries to run away from God. He jumps on a ship headed for Tarshish and falls asleep. He is contented in thinking that he has left the LORD behind. But then a great storm breaks over the Mediterranean and .....
Morning Service: Philemon 17-18.
Paul ,the Apostle, asks Philmeon to take back his bond-servant (Onesimus), as a Christian. Paul is willing to pay for anything that Onesimus owes Philemon. Paul's actions mirror the fact that Jesus Christ dies taking our debt onto himself and when people are restored to God there is great rejoicing in heaven.
Honouring the LORD is at the heart of Christian living. This includes using our possessions and wealth with God's wisdom and for his glory. The Bible has a great deal to tell about money. We cannot serve God and money. Christians aim to honour the LORD with all that they have.
Nineveh was a great city in the Assyrian Empire but the people lived ignoring and rebelling against God. God calls on Jonah to go and preach in the great city. Jonah says, "No, I'm not going"
Morning Service: Philemon 7 & 20.
One of the great blessings of becoming a Christian is the fellowship with other believers who have also put their faith in Jesus Christ. So each Christian enjoys this refreshing fellowship but alos has the responsibility to be a joy and refresh other Christians.
Evening Service: "Proverbs" and money.
God in his wisdom gives us great principles to live by in his world. Attitude towards money is part of this wisdom. "Proverbs" declares that "riches" are not forever, futile in the day of wrath and give false security.
Paul, the Apostle, goes to Philippi. Here he meets a devout woman, named Lydia. She is taking part in an open air prayer meeting by the river. When Paul explains to her the Good News about Jesus the Lord opens her heart and she comes to believe.
Morning Service: Philemon v.3.
Two of the great words of the Bible are grace and peace. Grace describes God's undeserved love and favour. This is most clearly seen as Jesus dies on the cross. Peace is one of the results of God's grace in our lives. This is peace that comes from knowing God and the assurance that we are forgiven.
Evening Service: Proverbs - the heart
As people living in God's creation we often insist that we are right and choose to disregard the LORD's commands. Our pride will put us in direct opposition to God. Pride comes before a fall is true in all walks of life: it is certainly true spiritually.
