Good to meet up again and chat. Down in numbers but still a very pleasant hour and a half
Thought For The Day
It's a great privilege for a sportsman to be included on an honours board. It's a greater privilege to have our names written in heaven. Faith in Jesus Christ gives us this great honour. His death on the cross being the sacrifice for our sins.
Children's Talk: Prayer is "free at the point of delivery" because Jesus Christ has paid the price to give us access to God. In our prayers we can pour out our hearts to God and thank him for his blessings.
Psalm 88 (Greg Francis)
The writer of this dark Psalm honestly ours out his heart to the LORD. He is in the depths of despair; it seems as if the LORD is not even answering his prayers. The key truth to always bear in mind is noted in v.1; the LORD is the God of his salvation. This is an unchangeable truth regardless of our circumstances.
Evening Service (Judges 15, The LORD is Samson's deliverer)
Samson gives himself over to be captured by the Philistines. He doesn't know what will happen but the LORD does - Samson trusts himself to the LORD. The LORD enables him to rout the Philistines using the jaw-bone of an ass (a most unlikely weapon). The LORD often takes the most unlikely and despised things/people to do his will.
Paul, Silas & Timothy take the Good News about Jesus to Philippi. After healing a young girl they end up in prison. Here they are enabled to sing hymns. Using an earthquake the prisoners are set free but don;t escape. The terrified jailer wants to know how to become a Christian. Paul explains & the man is converted.
Morning Service, Philippians 4:6-7
Andrew Thomas was our preacher this morning. Not being anxious about things is a great blessing that Christians can enjoy because they are in Christ & rejoice in him. They can pray in all situations, giving thanks to God, thinking about good wholesome things and the peace of God that is beyond understanding garrisons hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.
Elite sporting events usually end up with gold, silver & bronze medals being presented to athletes. However in "fun runs" all finishers get a medal. Jesus Christ promises to reserve a place in heaven for all of his people (not just the "elites").
Morning Service 1 John 5;21
As an old man and an experienced Christian John closes his 1st letter with the "advice" - Keep yourselves from idols. Idols are anything/anyone that replaces the worship of God in our hearts & lives. Christians are under constant temptation to replace their commitment to Jesus Christ with other things. Keep yourselves from idols is sound advice and teaching.
Judges 14; The LORD's ways are strange
Samson is far from being a role model for Christians. Yet the LORD previews what he will accomplish through this unorthodox & wayward believer. Samson's God (the LORD revealed in the Bible) works when Samson behaves badly. We see in Samson's life the extent of God's grace. We can never limit God.

You'll be very welcome!
Nehemiah, in spite of great opposition faithfully led work to rebuild the walls of Jerusalem. Several times it seemed as if their enemies were too powerful but Nehemiah prayed. The work was completed
Morning Service: 1 John 5;20
Jesus Christ came to give us understanding of the Gospel so that we can believe and come to know God; who is true, real and without deceit. To know God and be in him is the most secure and fulfilling place to be. Christians are in God through being in Christ, who is true God and eternal life.
Evening Service: Judges 13
Israel have wandered so far from the LORD that they don't cry out to him for a deliverer. Yet the LORD is full of grace. He sends them a deliverer - Samson is born into an impossible situation (he will begin to deliver Israel). Marvel at God's grace.
