Jesus noticed how people gave their gifts in the Temple. Some gave a great deal. Then poor widow who had only two small coins gave the two coins. Jesus commended her as she had given her all.
Morning Service: 1 John 5:3
Because they have relationship based on love with God, Christians obedience to God is on the basis of love. They love God because he first loved them and clearly declared that love in the Good New about Jesus. Their obedience to him is an obedience based on love and gratitude, so that God's commands are not burdensome
Evening Service: Judges 12
Not being grateful to the LORD for the way that he works in our lives is something to avoid. Pride sometimes makes us jealous of others and ungrateful to God. The LORD's ways of dealing with us differ but in the light of his sovereign care we can trust him, rejoice and thank him.
A good times was had by all. Plenty of tea, coffee and chat with a nice number meeting up.
Our "Thought For The Day" focussed on Jesus Christ dying in our place so that the debt of our sins before God can be paid off in full
Children's Talk; Jacob tricked his twin brother Esau. Esau then wanted to kill Jacob, so Jacob has to run for his life. Many years later God tells Jacob to go home. Jacob is afraid and calls out to the LORD. The following day Jacob comes face to face with Esau - Esau embraces him.
Morning Service; 1 John 5:18-19.
Christians live not aiming to sin because they are born again. They live being opposed by the devil and the world. However they are assured God's protection until eternity. The struggles they encounter each day are experienced under the never-failing protection of God.
Judges 11; Jephthah's hasty vow.
The Bible never gives us the opportunity to conclude that any human being is perfect. In the heat of the moment Jephthah jettisoned all that God has already declared and did what he though was right and best. This had catastrophic results for his family. When we ignore the LORD's word we always choose the wrong option.
As always it was a very pleasant morning. Good company, tea, coffee and chat. "Thought for the Day" was focussed on what the Lord tells us about being anxious. If God knows all about the birds and flowers how much more does he care for us.
Jesus the Good Shepherd is also the door into the sheepfold. He is the way, the truth and the life. Safe in his fold, he guards his people with great care.
Morning Service (Psalm 103; 1-5)
God's people have every reason to praise and thank him with everything that we have. He is the eternal God, who floods his benefits into our lives. How essential it is that we worship God for what he is (I.e. holy) in addition to thanking him for all that he has done for us
Evening Service: Judges 11:1-11, Rejected Jephthah becomes the LORD's chosen deliverer
Jephthah had a tough start to life; he wasn't loved and then thrown out by his half-brothers. The rejected Jephthah is the person the LORD chooses to deliver Israel. The LORD chooses things that are foolish and lowly by this world standards to fulfill his purposes and plan. Jesus Christ, despised and rejected is God's Saviour King - the one to trust.
NB. Mic left on after end of sermon. Sermon length is approx 26'
Children's Talk; when we pray we should
1. Give thanks to God
2. Say, "Sorry" (ask for forgiveness)
Pray for others
Morning Service (1 John 5:16-17)
When other Christians fall be willing too pray for them. Our comfort is that because of God's grace, Jesus Christ (his death on the cross) and the Christian's faith in him then the sin of a Christian will not lead to death. So we can confidently pray for others.
Evening Service: (Judges 10)
The Israelites are in a fix. They have forsaken the LORD, trusted in idols and now they face the Ammonite army. Only the LORD can help - they cry out to him. he answers their prayers; telling them to cry out to their idols, which are useless and can't help. They throw themselves onto the LORD's mercy and he responds with the eternal compassion that is his. He will not allow his people to suffer any longer. He will intervene
