Saul, the king becomes depressed & appreciates the music of David the shepherd boy. David becomes a great soldier and a national hero. Saul is jealous and tries to kill David. But even when he has the opportunity to retaliate and take revenge David refuses to do wrong.
Morning Service: Daniel 9:21-27
Daniel prays for his nation and that their exile in Babylon will end. God then reveals to him the great spiritual blessings (sins forgiven, eternal righteousness and fellowship with God) that will come to people through an anointed one being cut off (the Messiah being killed).
Evening Service: Psalm 133
When believers, people into whose hearts God has commanded life evermore, are in unity then it is good, pleasant, precious and refreshing. Meeting together in the unity stemming from the Good News about Jesus is a wonderful contrast to a world that is full of aggression and conflict.
In the days following Pentecost Peter & John (2 of Jesus' disciples) are enabled to perform a miracle: a lame man is healed & walks. This draws a crowd, so Peter and John preach the Good News about Jesus. This puts them on a collision course with Jerusalem's authorities and they are thrown into prison.
Morning Service, Daniel 9:17-21.
In this part of his prayer Daniel asks the LORD to show mercy to the Israelites in exile so they the LORD will be glorified. Daniel's prayer is God-centred. He knows that he and his people can only throw themselves onto the LORD's mercy and promise
Evening Service: Ephesians 6:19-20
Praying that the Good News about Jesus will be communicated boldly is vitally important. Through this Good News God changes hearts and lives. God works through the prayers of Christians to bring his purposes to pass.
Jesus told the story of a man who had a successful life but lived his life ignoring God. When he died he tragically had to leave his wealth behind and leave this world with nothing. The Lord Jesus tell us to make sure that we think about eternal things.
Daniel 9, Daniel's prayer (1).
Daniel's prayer is not a Christmas Shopping list. After reading the Bible (Jeremiah 29) he is made aware of God's great promises and prays giving God glory (worshipping God is important when praying).
He then prays that God will be merciful to the nation just as he has promised.
This morning's service on Pentecost Sunday was focussed on Acts 2.
We told the children the events of the promise of the Holy Spirit being made real. The sound of mighty rushing wind, the "fire" and the foreign languages.
In the Morning Service we thought about Pentecost being the start of the great spiritual harvest of people from all over the world being brought into Jesus' kingdom.
As it was 40 days after Easter last Thursday we told the story of Christ's Ascension into heaven. His disciples witness his ascension to heaven as the angels promise that one day he will return.
Morning Service: Hebrews 1:3&13
Christ ascended to heaven to the place of highest honour. This emphasises that his work as Saviour is complete and that one day it will be seen that he will have complete victory.
Evening Service: Acts 1:1-11
We thought again about Christ's Ascension back into heaven and emphasised the encouragement that this event is for Christians
