Down in number today but it was still a very pleasant morning. Home made scones and jam tarts were again very popular and appreciated.
Our thought for the day was based on a comment made by a radio commentator during the recent thanksgiving service for the reign of Queen Elizabeth. There has been a great deal of change since her coronation but she has remained a constant and stabilising influence.
The Bible reminds that in a world that can change so quickly God's Word and the Good News about Jesus Christ are unchanging in their power and authority
Children's Talk: God created the universe, our world and human beings. Then on the seventh day he rested.
Morning Service: Paul, the Apostle defends him self before Roman legal officials. He tells them of his certain hope of resurrection from the dead though Jesus Christ. He is called mad and insane. The message of the cross is foolishness to some but to those who believe it is God's power.
Evening Service, Galatians 5:1-6, Is it acceptable for Christians to live as they like? No! Our faith in Jesus Christ leads to lives dominated by love. Christians gain a right standing before God through faith in Jesus Christ and can look forward to many blessings. Each day they live by faith in Jesus Christ, living the live dominated by love.
Children's Talk: The God of the Bible is the creator of all things. He shows us his greatness and power in making all things
Morning Service: Acts 25, Paul, the Apostle, is summoned to stand in a Roman court. He is innocent of all crime. His accusers only charge against him is that he follows Jesus Christ (the Way). So they distort the truth and plot to kill him. Paul is (in Jesus' own words) persecuted for righteousness' sake.
Evening Service: (Galatians 4:21-31) Faith in Jesus Christ gives us the great blessing of spiritual freedom. When we start thinking that we need to add to our faith in Jesus so that we can gain a right standing before God then we go back to spiritual slavery. The blessings that God gives us through the Gospel of Jesus Christ cannot become ours by us doing many good works and being very religious.
Tea, Coffee and home made cakes were a welcome sight once again. Good conversation and chat.
Our thought for the day; human justice can sometimes to be slow and not always accurate. On the other hand God's justice is always perfect.
Children's Talk; we thought about God greatness through the children teaching the congregation, "My God is so big, so strong and so mighty"
Morning Service; Acts 24. Paul is standing trial before Felix, the Roman official. He uses the occasion to explain the Good News about Jesus to Felix. This has a profound effect on Felix, he is alarmed at the prospect of failing to meet God's perfect standards. Felix may have been affected by the Good News but never takes that final step of believing in Jesus Christ.
Evening Service: Galatians 4:8-20. It is spiritual foolishness to go back to the things that dominated our lives before we trusted Jesus Christ. The blessings that are ours in and through him are far better than anything our world offers. So why go back to these things
A good number met up this morning. There was plenty of discussion with ample amounts of tea, coffee and homemade cooking.
Thanks to all those who cook and bake each week.
Our Thought For The Day was considering how important it is for each of us to experience God for ourselves.
