Children's Talk: Jelly Babies were once called Peace Babies. Each coloured jelly baby has a particular characteristic, emphasising different parts of the Christian faith. It culminates in us being given peace with God through Jesus Christ and that we then shoud do all that we can to be at peace with others.
Morning Service: Acts 23, Paul defends himself before the Jewish religious leaders. In making his defence he makes these points:
Evening Service, Galatians 4:4-7. Not one person can keep God's Law enough to gain a right standing before God. We need to be saved (redeemed) from this hopeless situation. So God sends out Jesus Christ to do this. He finished his work and now we can gain a right standing before God through faith in Jesus Christ.
A great chance to meet up and chat about all kinds of things with friends etc. There's nowhere else in Dafen that offers free tea, coffee and top quality home made cooking.
Thought for the Day: Hide and seek is a game that has been played for generations. When Adam and Eve sinned they tried to hide from God, but God seeks them out in order to to tell them that they can be restored to him. This theme is seen throughout the Bible. Jesus Christ seeks out Zaccheus, a rouge and corrupt tax-collector. Then we read these words: the Son of Man came to seek and save that which was lost.
Two guest preachers today: Jeremy Evans (Morning) & Mervyn Christopher (Evening)
Morning Service (Isaiah 40): The God described in the Bible is aware of our situations, able to help us in our weakness etc and is always available to give us much needed help. He is reliable: we can trust him
Evening Service (Philippians 3): Salvation is of the Lord, he alone can save us. When we trust Jesus Christ we can forget the past and its failures and move forward living for him.
Children's Talk: If we have Bibles let's read them and not just leave them collecting dust
A Good Time Was Had By All. The homemade sausage rolls and strawberry gateaux were again very well received - delicious!
Our thought for the day was:
Never thrust ourselves and our achievements of gain a right standing before God. We only gain this through faith in Jesus Christ
Children's Talk: The Holy Spirit comes onto Jesus' disciples to help them understand all the things that Jesus had taught them and to help them tell others. On that first Pentecost Sunday 3,000 believed the Gospel.
Morning Service: John 16, 1-15. We concentrated on Jesus' promise of the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit will convict people of sin, righteousness and judgement. He will also lead people into "all truth" - understanding the fullness of the Good News about Jesus.
Evening Service (Isaiah 44:3): Isaiah the prophet declares that the Spirit of the Lord will transform dry and barren hearts of people so that they commit themselves to loving and worshipping God and Jesus Christ. Our hearts are so spiritually barren and dry that it's only God the Holy Spirit who can transform us.
Numbers were down today due to other commitments. Nevertheless it was a pleasant and thoroughly enjoyable morning.
Our Thought For The Day was thinking that even though as human beings we achieve great things e.g. the Large Hadron Collidor, these can be so easily damaged or destroyed. God's greatness is eternal and yet we can enjoy this greatness by coming to know him through Jesus Christ.
Morning Service: Acts 1:1-11. We thought about Jesus' Ascension in this way:
Tea, Coffee, Chat: Nice to meet up with an individual that hasn't been able to join us recently. As usual there was plenty to discuss and chat over.
Exploring the Bible Groups: These were good sessions exploring the great Bible themes of
1. Justification - we gain a right standing before God through faith in Jesus Christ.
2. Sanctification - God changing Christians so that they become more like Jesus Christ.
There was plenty of helpful discussion and questioning in both groups.
Children's Talk: 3 times Peter, the disciple, denies the Lord Jesus. Following the resurrection Jesus asks Peter, "Do you love me?". Peter says, "Yes". Peter is wonderfully restored. Jesus Christ shows amazing grace and compassion when we fall.
Morning Service: Acts 22- Paul tells the story of how he was converted. He was a cruel persecutor of Christians and proud of his religious achievements. Yet Jesus Christ breaks into his life with forgiving grace
Evening Service: (Galatians 3:26-4:7), God gives us the great blessings of forgiveness, calling him Father and sonship through faith in Jesus Christ and not through keeping God's Law. The Christian experience makes all things new in the life of an individual.
