Volunteers who turned up at Dafen Pond on the morning of the 23rd of September, collected several bags of litter, which included soiled nappies and underwear!, old clothes, car parts, and toys; as well as the more expected items like bottles, cans and food wrappers. Cllr Tegwen Devichand who organised the pick was joined by representatives of Keep Wales Tidy -- Tidy Towns, Council Leader Kevin Madge, and a group of local residents and volunteers, including members of Dafen Forum.
It is hoped that more litter picks can be organised for the Dafen area in future and that more residents can be encouraged to show how much they care for their local area by getting involved in this kind of hands-on, problem-solving action.
In the meantime, residents are being urged to help the council catch those responsible of littering, fly tipping and dog fouling, by reporting incidents, either by calling Carmarthenshire Direct or by using the report forms via the council website.
www.carmarthenshire.gov.uk or call Carmarthenshire Direct on 01267 234567.
On a related note, household rubbish was also found being left next to the recycling bank at the car park. Residents are reminded that the facilities provided at Dafen Pond and Dafen Park car parks for recycling are for the items indicated on the banks only. Residents should also ensure they put their waste into the recycling banks and not leave it on the ground. The banks are emptied regularly but if they are full then people should take their waste home until they are serviced or use an alternative recycling site. Anybody leaving waste around the bins should be aware that they are liable for prosecution for fly tipping.
