The Diversity Team and Strategy and Planning Team in Dyfed Powys Police have launched a programme of information and engagement events with young people. We asked young people if they would be interested to join a ‘Young People’s Advisory Group’ (or young people’s panel) for Dyfed-Powys Police, as getting their views on policing issues is an important part of engagement with our communities.
Following feedback, information and engagement events or open days were arranged, where there was an opportunity for young people to tour Headquarters, with inputs and demonstrations from various departments. These present opportunities to ask their views about policing issues that matter to young people – for example Stop and Search, or the use of youth cautions.
The first event took place on 29 May 2013, where Sea Cadets from Milford Haven, Pembroke Dock, Fishguard, and Aberystwyth visited us.
The purpose of these events is for young people to:
A number of Police Community Support Officers were in attendance, and the Sea Cadets were encouraged to use the opportunity to get to know them as they are their local contacts for policing.
If you know of any young people who would be interested in taking part in these events please get in touch with Helen Morgan-Howard, Equality and Diversity Manager on 101.
