Dafen welcomed Tata Steel to the park on Sunday, with both sides seeking a win to advance their causes; Dafen to move out to the threat of relegation and Tata to move towards the top. The pitch was hard but had already been used this year and so when they won the toss Tata decided to bat first to make the most of the wicket.
And it was cat and mouse, an early wicket fell to Dafen skipper Matthew Evans and then Tata rebuilt to 57-3 before a mini-collapse and it was 67 for 4Evanse had taken a couple of wickets and Chris Hudson was keeping it tight. Tata rebuilt again, based around a careful 47 from Kelvin Bartle to make it 142-5, Bartle fell and the rest of the batsmen clawed their way to 183 all out. Evans, Phil George and Andrew Rowlands took three wickets each.
In reply disaster struck early for Dafen as Jon Randell fell for nought, before Nicky Davies and Dafydd Nicholas got stuck in. Nicholas scored freely before falling for 30, Davies followed for 26 and the innings subsided slowly and miserably thereafter to a close of 110 all out. Matthews Saker and Jones both taking 3 wickets.
Another disappointing day for Dafen and joy for Tata. Next week Dafen play Llangennech.
