Over the last couple of weeks the pond area has really been looking lovely. The swans are enjoying the sun and lounging around on the water. The ducks however are spending a lot of the time in the shade and just going on the water now and again to have a stretch.
There are many beautiful butterfly and damselflies all along side the river. Buds are opening on the wildflowers giving a lovely splash of colour. The moorhens have been very lively and have made me laugh with their bickering and antics. I am concerned though as a few weeks back I had seen a very young moorhen but have not seen it since!!!
We have such a beautiful place on our doorstep which many people do visit but I am sure many more would benefit from going to see it. Please don't forget to use the bins provided.
Hi, My name is Trixie Evans. I have lived in Dafen for nearly 30 years now and one of my favourite places in the village is the pond.
When my children were young i would often take them to the pond to feed the swans and ducks. Sadly there was a long spell when there were no swans there. I was so pleased when a swan and her cygnets arrived last October. Hopefully a mate will soon arrive to make for a new little swan community gracing the pond.
Last October i became a volunteer for Carmarthenshire Wildlife Watch. As a part of the watch we set up wildlife walks and a pond watch. My choice of pond to watch, of course, had to be Dafen pond.
Many people go to the pond to walk the dog, feed the birds, take children or just for a walk and are aware of what is there. Many people though are to busy to notice what is going on there or to ill to go there amongst many other reasons. I hope to help by writing about my observations and showing my photos. I am an amateur at photography but my photos will still give you a view of what i see as i walk around. I hope you will join me here to see what my latest news is.
