This souvenir programme certainly sparked interest when the picture was posted on Dafen Village Website's Facebook page. But the inevitable question was "who is the woman pictured?"
Many joked that she was a game show assistant or soap opera star.
But Debbie James (nee Marsh) had the answer: "Oh my word.... I most definitely know who she is it's my Mam. I was 8 when she won Dafen cover girl and I remember that she wouldn't admit her age (28) because she was competing against 18 year olds. Haha. Her name at the time was Diane Marsh (formerly Davies and later Miles). My Mam was a very social and bubbly person and she worked for many years in the gas showrooms in town centre. People may remember her from there. We have connections with Dafen as Jeff Jones, England cricketer, is my Mam's first cousin. I have the original of this photograph but unfortunately not a copy of the carnival programme. My Mam passed away in January 2006, she had cancer and was just 61. Her sister Marilyn Rosser is on Facebook. I hope people find this of interest and thanks for posting a lovely memory of my beautiful Mam."
Marilyn Rosser wrote: "This lovely lady is my late sister, Diane. Dafen held a carnival day every year and we always went. This particular year, we persuaded Diane to enter the Carnival Queen competition and she came first. We also used to go to Burry Port carnival annually and she became the carnival queen there as well. We all miss her so much. xx
